Before beginning any project, every designer needs a set of drawings that they can use as a medium of communication with the client, on-site contractor, or any related individual involved in constructing and designing the place.

Why do I need these drawings?

  1. A drawing transforms your ideas and thoughts into a visual story. This way, clients have a clear idea of what the design is.
  2. Having a floor layout drawing of space also helps in selecting and purchasing materials. It helps you visualize what the end results will be so that you can make changes in the drawings and choose materials accordingly, rather than spending money and efforts on rework post-execution.
  3. With accurate layout drawings, one can also finalize furniture, bathroom fittings, and other hardware, and ensure that they blend in seamlessly with the overall appearance of your space.
  4. With the right layouts, one can communicate better with the on-site contractors without any errors or mistakes.

What are the drawings one needs before starting?

  1. Wall Layout Plan – Wall layout drawing is the basis of all working drawings. It is the schematic layout of walls marked with column position, vital for changing the internal structure of a building.
  2. Door and Windows Layout – In this layout drawing, doors and windows are arranged along with the general layout and dimensions. Such floor design drawings show the direction in which the doors and windows will open and the extent of their opening.
  3. Electrical / Lighting layout drawings – These floor design drawings include the layout of wires, devices, and units, and the location of all light sources, switches, and outlets that are necessary.
  4. Furniture layout drawings – A furniture layout drawing is an integral part of interior design drawings. These floor plan layouts show the schematic top view of furniture, and its location, size, and shape. With furniture design drawings, viewers can see the arrangement of everything inside a room and the amount of circulation available.
  5. Elevation – An elevation drawing shows a vertical projection of a wall and other objects/furniture inside a building or space. The purpose of an elevation drawing is to show the finished appearance of a given side of the room and furnish vertical height dimensions. Four elevations are customarily drawn, one for each side of the space.
  6. Reflected Ceiling Plans – This type of drawing layout provides the design, dimensions, and heights of ceilings.
  7. Plumbing layout drawings – These include all fixtures in a property such as showers, bathrooms, sinks, and toilets.

An important key point is to make sure all these drawings are ready before starting the on-site work for ease and proper workflow.
